247 The international non-governmental organization Reporters Without Borders (RSF) condemned on Monday a targeted Israeli attack in Gaza City that killed six journalists, including Al Jazeera reporter Anas Al-Sharif.

The fighting, interrupted by brief ceasefires, has already left more than 61 Palestinians and about 1.500 Israelis dead, has spread to Lebanon and Yemen, and has provoked missile exchanges between Israel and Iran.

Earlier, the Qatar-based broadcaster reported that the Israeli attack, carried out on Sunday against a journalists' tent near a hospital in Gaza City, killed five of its employees and a Palestinian freelance journalist. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) admitted to the attack against Anas Al-Sharif, whom they accused of working for the Palestinian movement Hamas.

“We strongly condemn the murder of Al Jazeera reporter Anas Al-Sharif by the Israeli army in an attack targeting a tent he was sheltering near Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza, which killed five other journalists and injured three more,” Reporters Without Borders (RSF) stated on social media.

On October 7, 2023, Israel suffered an unprecedented rocket attack launched from the Gaza Strip. Subsequently, Hamas militants crossed the border, opened fire on soldiers and civilians, and took over 200 hostages. According to authorities, approximately 1.200 people were killed on the Israeli side.

In response, the IDF launched Operation Iron Swords, which included bombings against civilian targets and imposed a total blockade of the Gaza Strip — suspending the supply of water, electricity, fuel, food and medicine (with Sputnik).
