HispanTV - Iranian President Hassan Rouhani denounces the United States' obstruction of humanitarian aid to his country as an unprecedented crime.

In statements made during a meeting with senior government officials held this Wednesday (3) in Tehran, Rohani strongly criticized the new US anti-Iranian measure, which blocks bank accounts of humanitarian entities to prevent aid from reaching those affected by the floods in the Islamic Republic.

"It is an unprecedented crime to prevent foreign aid from reaching Iran, and our Red Crescent (equivalent to the Red Cross in the Middle East) cannot receive aid from other countries under these difficult circumstances," said the Persian leader, assuring that the government will make every effort to assist those affected by the floods and compensate for their losses.

Even Iranians living abroad cannot send aid to their compatriots, Rohani criticized, adding that it is essential that the Iranian Foreign Ministry, as well as the judicial authorities, follow the matter legally.

In turn, the president of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Peter Maurer, on Monday (April 1st) condemned the use of politics in humanitarian aid and confirmed that US sanctions prevented assistance from being provided to those affected by the floods in Iran, which since March 19th have caused the death of 57 people and left 478 injured, in addition to significant material losses.
