247 - Russian President Vladimir Putin sent a strategic partnership treaty signed with Venezuela to the State Duma, the lower house of the Russian parliament, on Thursday (16). The agreement, signed in May in Moscow during Nicolás Maduro's visit, provides for cooperation in key areas such as energy, defense, trade and technology, with an initial duration of ten years and automatic renewal every five. The information was released by RT BrasilThe pact was formalized during the celebrations for the 80th anniversary of Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War, when Maduro was in Moscow alongside Putin. According to the document, the objective is to expand bilateral ties and reduce the dependence of both countries on the Western financial system, considered hostile by both governments.

Economic and military cooperation

The treaty establishes the creation of independent financial mechanisms aimed at facilitating investments and commercial transactions between Russia and Venezuela. This strategy seeks to circumvent barriers imposed by international sanctions, especially against Caracas.

Another central focus is the execution of joint projects in strategic sectors, such as oil, gas, and mining. Energy coordination should also gain strength in international forums, such as the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and the Forum of Gas Exporting Countries, reinforcing the position of both countries in these spheres of global influence.

Defense and security

In the military field, the agreement foresees intensified technical-military cooperation, focusing on strengthening the security and defense capabilities of both states. This closer relationship expands the Russian presence in Latin America, while simultaneously supporting the regime of Nicolás Maduro, which faces strong internal and international opposition.

Expanding strategic ties

Beyond the economic and military dimensions, the treaty includes partnerships in the fields of science, technology, and culture. The Kremlin sees Venezuela as a strategic ally amidst the growing geopolitical dispute with the West, while Maduro is betting on Moscow's support as a way to reinforce his internal legitimacy and counter international pressure for political change in the country.
