Kremlin says Putin and Trump will hold a summit in a third country soon.

Russia and the United States have agreed that Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump will meet soon, Kremlin foreign policy advisor Yuri Ushakov said on Wednesday (27).

247, with Reuters, by Denis Pinchuk - Speaking after Putin met with US National Security Advisor John Bolton, Ushakov said the summit will be held in a third country convenient for both, and that several more weeks will be needed to prepare for the meeting.

"This meeting has been planned for a long time," said the Kremlin advisor. "It has enormous importance for Russia and the United States, but (it also) has enormous importance for the entire international situation. I think it will be the main international event of the summer (in the northern hemisphere)."

The summit will likely irritate US allies who want to isolate Putin, such as the United Kingdom, or countries that are concerned about Trump's attitude toward Russia.

The meeting is also likely to be poorly received by domestic and foreign critics who question Trump's commitment to NATO and are concerned about the US president's desire to resume ties with Moscow at the same time that Washington intensifies sanctions against the country.

The meeting is expected to take place after Trump attends a NATO summit and visits the United Kingdom next month. A senior US official said on Tuesday (26) that the Finnish capital, Helsinki, is being considered as a location.
