Putin and Trump are pressuring Ukraine to accept the deal, leaving Europe out of the negotiations.
The meeting in Alaska solidified Russia's central role in the peace process and made it clear that the United States, under Donald Trump, prioritizes Moscow.
247 - The recent meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump in Alaska has repositioned the pieces on the chessboard of the war in Ukraine and increased pressure on Volodymyr Zelensky. This information was published by... Sputnik International this Saturday (16).
According to Paul Goncharoff, financial analyst and director of Goncharoff LLC, after the summit "the pressure on Zelensky is to 'close a deal soon'". He highlighted that the so-called European war hawks "were partially warned not to interfere" in the diplomatic efforts conducted by Washington.
Pressure on Ukraine and Europe
According to Goncharoff, Donald Trump is in a position to "punish economically and militarily" both Ukraine and European countries if they do not moderate their demands regarding Moscow. The analyst believes that the most likely outcome of the conflict will be the consolidation of a Russian victory, with the definitive incorporation of Donbass, the creation of a buffer zone, and the holding of elections in Ukraine under security guarantees that would prevent the country from joining NATO.
"In short — Russia achieves its objectives over a conflict that Europe should never have become involved with and should always have remained a small regional issue for Moscow to deal with. Trump, it appears, has taken that on board," Goncharoff told Sputnik.
US acknowledges Russian victory.
International relations and energy geoeconomics expert Hriday Sarma assessed that the Alaska summit effectively means the United States has "accepted Russia's victory in the Ukraine conflict." He believes the meeting, which both leaders described as "productive," made it clear that Moscow is indispensable to any peace process.
Sarma further added that Western attempts to isolate Russia have failed, as the country maintains a central role in global affairs and remains dominant in the international oil and gas market.
Diplomacy Beyond Alaska
The analyst highlighted that international attention is now focused on the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin, China, where a potential meeting between Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, and Xi Jinping, President of China, could amplify this new diplomatic wave in Eurasia. "The Alaska summit confirmed Russia's restored role as a central power on the global stage," he stated.
The symbolism of the encounter
For Tiberio Graziani, president of the Vision and Global Trends institute, the real breakthrough of the meeting was demonstrating that "dialogue remains possible in the face of the challenges of a new world order." According to him, the meeting showed signs of a "positive personal chemistry" between Putin and Trump, but he stressed that building a real peace will depend on overcoming internal and external obstacles.
Despite being celebrated as productive, the meeting irritated the more belligerent sectors of Europe, who felt "excluded" from the negotiations. Trump also faces internal resistance in the US, especially from opponents who still defend the "until victory" line against Moscow.
