247 - The phone conversations between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump took place in a cordial and understanding atmosphere, according to The Wall Street Journal, which revealed this on Thursday (7), citing sources close to the talks.
According to the publication, Trump has frequently expressed his goal of restoring ties between Moscow and Washington, especially through strengthened economic cooperation. The newspaper also reports that, in addition to direct talks, the two leaders have exchanged numerous messages through intermediaries.
Since the beginning of 2025, Putin and Trump have already held six telephone conversations. The American president even expressed, shortly after his inauguration in January, his desire to meet with the Russian leader the following day. In the following months, he reiterated on several occasions his intention to promote a bilateral summit.
On Wednesday (7), Russian presidential advisor Yury Ushakov announced that an agreement had been reached for a face-to-face meeting between Putin and Trump “in the coming days”.
