247 - Russian President Vladimir Putin reiterated Iran's sovereign right to develop nuclear technology for peaceful purposes and advocated for a negotiated solution to the escalating conflict between Tehran and Tel Aviv. "Iran has the right to pursue nuclear technology programs for peaceful purposes," the Russian head of state stated, emphasizing that this principle is in accordance with international law and multilateral treaties.
Putin also stressed that Moscow is willing to collaborate technically with Tehran, as it has done in the past. "Russia is prepared to provide Iran with the necessary assistance and support for the development of peaceful nuclear energy, just as it has done in previous years," he stated.
Amid a new wave of clashes between Iran and Israel, which began on June 13, Putin called for direct dialogue between the two sides as an alternative to military escalation. "There are specific issues, in my opinion, that can and should be the subject of negotiations," he said. He believes it is essential that both Iran and Israel be involved in the dialogue process in order to find a lasting solution to the impasse surrounding the Iranian nuclear program.
The Russian position reinforces Moscow's criticism of the unilateral military actions promoted by Tel Aviv, which, with the support of US President Donald Trump, has been intensifying its rhetoric and operations against Iran, alleging risks of militarization of the Iranian nuclear program — an accusation always denied by Tehran.
Putin's speech comes at a critical moment for regional stability in the Middle East.
