Gaddafi's eldest son fled.
Mohammed, the eldest son of the Libyan leader, reportedly escaped the rebel siege in Tripoli, according to a source from the insurgent coalition.
Mohammed Gaddafi, the eldest son of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, escaped after being arrested by rebels in Tripoli, a high-ranking source in the insurgent coalition said on Monday. "Yes, it's true, he escaped," the source in Benghazi said. Between yesterday and today, rebel representatives claimed to have arrested two of Gaddafi's sons: Mohammed, the eldest, and Saif al-Islam, previously considered by analysts to be his father's likely successor.
Last night, the pan-Arab television network Al-Jazeera was interviewing Mohammed by telephone when his residence was attacked by rebels. Gunfire was heard and the call was subsequently dropped. This morning, the rebels announced Mohammed's arrest. (Source: Dow Jones)
