Brazil Agency - Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto announced three stages of action on Wednesday (20) following the strong earthquake on Tuesday and asked volunteers to support the work of helping the victims. "We are all one when it comes to saving a life," he said. The information is from the EFE Agency.
In a message to the nation, Peña Nieto detailed that the government's response will be divided into three parts: support for the affected population, preparation of a comprehensive census of material damage, and reconstruction.
This final phase, according to him, "will initially require the demolition of buildings with irreparable structural damage and the removal of debris."
"At this stage, the active participation of the private sector and society as a whole will be necessary over the next few weeks," he added.
Furthermore, the Mexican president acknowledged the work of the volunteers who are unconditionally assisting those in need. He also thanked, on behalf of the nation, the thousands of messages of solidarity and encouragement from all parts of the world.
"Mexico has accepted the technical and specialized assistance offered to us by various countries, in particular Spain, the United States, Israel, Japan, and other Latin American countries that have recognized experience in responding to natural disasters like the ones we are facing," he stated.
The president assured residents of the affected areas that they are not alone. "Working side by side, we will move forward," he declared.
"Faced with the force of nature, we are all vulnerable, and therefore, we are all one when it comes to saving a life or helping a victim. If there is anything that distinguishes Mexicans, it is their generosity and fraternity," he said.
So far, authorities have recorded 230 deaths due to the 7,1 magnitude earthquake, of which 100 were in Mexico City, 69 in the state of Morelos, 43 in Puebla, 13 in the State of Mexico, 4 in Guerrero, and 1 in Oaxaca.
