British police to investigate parties with Boris Johnson during the pandemic.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson will be investigated on suspicion of breaking lockdown rules imposed to combat Covid-19.
Reuters British police will investigate alleged breaches of lockdown measures at Prime Minister Boris Johnson's official residence on Downing Street, following evidence from an internal government investigation into a series of gatherings.
Johnson, who in 2019 won the Conservative Party's largest majority in over 30 years, is fighting for his political survival after a series of leaks revealed that his team threw parties during the period of the strictest rules ever imposed in the UK in peacetime.
New allegations surfaced Monday night that he broke lockdown rules imposed to combat Covid-19 by attending a surprise birthday party at Downing Street when indoor social gatherings were prohibited.
This latest incident adds to a long list of lockdown violations at Downing Street, including a party where guests were instructed to "bring their own drinks," which Johnson attended and said he thought was a work event.
"The police will now investigate," said London Metropolitan Police Commissioner Cressida Dick on Tuesday.
