HANDLE - Pope Francis offered a prayer for parents and children at the general audience this Wednesday (26), recalling Saint Joseph, and said that parents should never condemn homosexual children.

"At this moment, I think of all those who are weary of the weight of life and can no longer wait or pray. May Saint Joseph help them to open a dialogue with God, to rediscover light, strength, and help. I think of parents with sick children, including those with permanent illnesses—how much pain! Also, of parents who see a different sexual orientation in their children: how to manage this, how to accompany them and not hide behind condemnation," said the Pontiff.

"Never condemn a child," he added, also speaking about young people who die from illnesses or pass away "from doing youthful things and ending up in car accidents." He also stated that "children who are not doing well in school" should be monitored.

"Don't be alarmed, there is indeed a lot of pain, but you can pray," he added.

The Catholic leader also cited an instance from when he was archbishop in Buenos Aires and witnessed "a lot of tenderness" when he was "riding the bus and passing in front of the prison and there was a line of mothers there, who were there showing tenderness."

"The courage of mothers and fathers always accompanies their children. Let us ask the Lord for that courage," he emphasized.

This is not the first time that Francis has called for the acceptance of gay people in the Catholic Church and in families, a stance that is always attacked by the more conservative wing of the institution.
