Sputnik - In an article, British journalist and political scientist Finian Cunningham says that NATO powers are being misled by their own propaganda and political venality.

NATO's major countries have broken their promise to Ukraine by continuing to supply the country with weapons. This statement was made by British journalist and political scientist Finian Cunningham in an article published on the Strategic Culture website, dedicated to global geopolitical analysis.

In the article, Cunningham points out that a scenario in which German tanks enter Ukraine to fight against Russia might seem surreal, given the history of World War II. However, according to him, this is exactly the scenario that the proxy war waged by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) against Russia is heading towards.

The author notes in the article that the main NATO countries announced almost simultaneously their intention to supply armored vehicles to Ukraine. The United States decided to transfer 50 Bradley infantry fighting vehicles to the Ukrainian army, while Germany pledged to supply 40 Marder infantry fighting vehicles, and French President Emmanuel Macron announced that he would send AMX-10 RC light tanks to Kyiv.

"They have all previously stated that they would not supply tanks to Ukraine, as this would lead to a reckless escalation that could trigger a third world war," Cunningham added.

"The NATO powers are greatly misled by their own propaganda, political venality, and the dependence of their capitalist economies on military-industrial entrepreneurs," the political scientist summarized.

Last Friday, the United States announced a new – and the largest – military assistance package to Ukraine, worth nearly US$3 billion (approximately R$16 billion). Specifically, the package includes Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, self-propelled howitzers, armored vehicles, projectiles for Himars MLRS, as well as other equipment and ammunition. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and US President Joe Biden agreed in a phone conversation on Thursday to send heavy military equipment to Kyiv. Germany announced its willingness to provide Marder infantry fighting vehicles and Patriot air defense systems. French President Emmanuel Macron, in a conversation with Volodymyr Zelensky, said that Paris would supply Ukraine with armored vehicles or AMX-10RC wheeled tanks.

Russia had already sent a note to NATO countries regarding the supply of weapons to Ukraine. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that any shipment containing weapons destined for Ukraine would become a legitimate target for Russia. The Foreign Ministry stated that NATO countries are "playing with fire" by supplying weapons to Ukraine. The press secretary of the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov, said that bombing Ukraine with Western weapons does not contribute to the success of Russian-Ukrainian negotiations and will have a negative effect.
