NATO plans to establish military bases in Montenegro and continues its anti-Russian policy in the Balkans. This was stated by the country's opposition leader, Milan Knezevic, in an interview published in the Russian media.

"NATO plans to create military bases in Montenegro; these plans will be implemented in the coming years, and by 2019, it is very likely that one base will be built on the coast of Montenegro and another in its mountainous region," the politician stated.

He noted that a possible location for the future base could be the area between the Belasica and Sinjajevina mountains, which has all the requirements to host a military installation thanks to its geographical position.

"Montenegro was admitted to NATO so that the bloc can increase its presence in the Mediterranean Sea, since the organization wants to control it completely," he added.

Knezevic emphasized that the local media accused Russia of funding the opposition and destabilizing the situation in the country. He claims that all actions by President Vladimir Putin and other high-ranking Russian government officials are treated as something negative.

"They are trying to convince the citizens of Montenegro that Moscow is conducting a campaign against the country, while the government is taking all necessary measures to counter Moscow's influence," he emphasized.

The politician also stressed that the anti-Russian policy does not reflect the opinion of the people and, in reality, is nothing more than an attempt by the current administration to remain in power.
