Wave of violence has already killed 173 people in Nicaragua.

The wave of violence unleashed two months ago in Nicaragua has already resulted in the death of 173 people, the Truth, Justice and Peace Commission, responsible for clarifying the facts that occurred during the social and political crisis, reported on Tuesday (19).

Wave of violence has already killed 173 people in Nicaragua.

247, with Prensa Latina - Of the total number of fatalities, 156 were men, six were women, and 11 were minors, according to data from the preliminary report that the Truth, Justice and Peace Commission will present this week.

The data is alarming, but even more alarming are the conditions under which people died, said Jaime Lopez, a member of the commission, during a press conference.

'These are painful facts, the truth is that we feel the pain for the dead and the Nicaraguan families,' he stated.

Most of the deaths (95) occurred in Managua, followed by Masaya (20), Estelí and Chinandega (9), Leon and Matagalpa (8), the Autonomous Region of the North Caribbean Coast (7), and the rest in Carazo, Granada, Jinotega, Rio San Juan, Chontales and the Autonomous Region of the South Caribbean.

Lopez noted that they are still investigating the occupations of all the deceased, but so far it is known that 11 of them were university students, nine were high school students, and the same number were police officers.

The other seven were shopkeepers, three were taxi drivers, two were journalists, the same number were teachers and security guards, and one was unemployed, according to the source, who expressed the commission's efforts to complete this aspect of the research.

To compile the statistics, the commission took into account reports from the Ministry of Health, the National Police, the Institute of Legal Medicine, human rights organizations, and the media.

The commission also expressed concern about the increase in violence, noting that violent acts reached unimaginable levels of cruelty and depravity last weekend, when six people were murdered in a fire and two others were shot, their bodies burned and thrown into the street.

The escalation of violence erupted amidst protests against government social security reforms, which were later revoked, but this was not enough to contain the demonstrations.

According to observers, these reforms served as a pretext to set in motion a plan directed from abroad with the aim of destabilizing the nation and bringing about the overthrow of the government.
