WHO says Ebola outbreak is an "unparalleled" crisis.
The statement was made by the Assistant Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Bruce Aylward, during a press conference; the outbreak in West Africa has killed 2.461 people, half of the 4.985 infected by the virus.
GENEVA (Reuters) The Ebola outbreak in West Africa has killed 2.461 people, half of the 4.985 infected by the virus, said the World Health Organization's (WHO) Assistant Director-General, Bruce Aylward, on Tuesday.
"Quite frankly, ladies and gentlemen, this crisis we are facing is unparalleled in modern times," Aylward said at a press conference in Geneva. "We don't know where the numbers are going."
According to him, the previous prediction that the number of cases could reach 20.000 no longer seems too high, but the number could be kept within the tens of thousands if there is a "much faster response".
