New earthquake shakes northern Italy, leaving ten dead.

247, with Agência Brasil – At least ten people died and several others were injured on Tuesday, September 29th, as a result of the 5,8 magnitude earthquake that struck northern Italy. Three of the victims were construction workers who were buried under the rubble of a commercial building. The hardest-hit areas were Modena, San Felice del Panaro, and Mirandola. The tremors also affected the cities of Bologna and Verona.

The tremor occurred around 9:00 AM local time (4:00 AM Brasília time). Alberto Silvestri, mayor of one of the affected cities, San Felice sul Panaro, told the television network Scygy24 that a factory collapsed in the town, causing "several deaths," the total of which he did not specify, according to EFE.

The tremor had its epicenter in the town of Finale Emilia, in the province of Modena, Emilia Romagna region, in the same area where the earthquake of May 20th occurred, which left seven dead, about 50 injured and more than five thousand evacuated, when churches, castles and historical monuments were completely destroyed.

New collapses have been reported in areas already affected by the previous earthquake, but so far there have been no injuries. Following the tremor, several public buildings were evacuated in various cities in the north of the country, such as Milan and Bologna, but without causing any major problems.

Three years ago, in March 2009, approximately 300 people died and thousands were left homeless due to a 6,3 magnitude earthquake that devastated the city of L'Aquila in central Italy.
