Netanyahu: Israel recognizes Guaidó as the new leader of Venezuela.

247 - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has declared that he recognizes Juan Guaidó, president of the National Assembly (parliament), as the new leader of Venezuela.

"Israel joins the United States, Canada, most Latin American countries and Europe in recognizing Venezuela's new leadership," the Israeli Prime Minister said in a video message on Sunday (27).

Juan Guaidó proclaimed himself "interim president" of Venezuela during a demonstration in Caracas last Wednesday (23). Guaidó's action was considered illegal by the Venezuelan government, whose president, Nicolás Maduro, was elected in May of last year and sworn in on January 10. Guaidó was neither elected nor sworn in by Venezuelan institutions, which represents a flagrant violation of the Constitution.

The US government of Donald Trump, to whom Israel is unconditionally allied, suffered two diplomatic defeats during the week, failing to get a Declaration of support for the coup d'état and the external intervention in the South American country approved at the OAS and the UN. Most of the countries that spoke at the UN Security Council meeting this Saturday (26) stated that Guaidó's self-proclamation violates the country's Constitution and that the intervention proposed by the United States violates International Law.
