In Poland, Biden says the US and Europe are not seeking to control or destroy Russia.

The statement is a response to Vladimir Putin, who suggested on Tuesday that the West seeks to eliminate Russia from the map.

247 - US President Joe Biden gave a speech to around 30 people on Tuesday (21) in the Polish capital, Warsaw, where he met with his local counterpart, Andrzej Duda.

In his speech, Biden emphasized that Washington and Europe are not seeking to destroy Russia and have no plans to attack Vladimir Putin's country. He also advocated support for Kiev, which has been fighting against Russian troops for almost a year. 

"Tonight, I speak once again to the people of Russia. The United States and the nations of Europe do not seek to control or destroy Russia. The West was not planning to attack Russia as Putin said today," Biden said.

He added: "This war is never a necessity. It's a tragedy. President Putin chose this war."

"There should be no doubt that our support for Ukraine will not waver, NATO will not be divided, and we will not give up," Biden said.

He said he has a message for the people of Russia: the country's invasion of Ukraine needs to end.

Biden concluded his speech by saying, "The enemy of the tyrant, the hope of the brave, and the truth of the times is freedom."

"Stay with us. We'll stay with you. We'll move forward with faith and conviction and with an unwavering commitment to being your ally," Biden said.

After Biden finished his remarks, Coldplay's 'A Sky Full of Stars' began to play, and a large group of children waving Ukrainian and American flags ran out and surrounded the president.

Biden discusses energy and defense cooperation with Duda of Poland.

Biden discussed cooperation in the energy and defense sectors during a meeting with his Polish counterpart Duda, the White House said Tuesday.

"[Biden and Duda] discussed their countries' growing cooperation in the energy sector, including civilian nuclear power, our strong bilateral defense relationship, and the importance of the democratic values ​​that underpin the transatlantic alliance," the White House said in a statement.

The meeting took place as part of a visit by Biden to Warsaw, during which he will also meet with other NATO allies on the eastern flank on the eve of the one-year anniversary of Russia's special military operation in Ukraine.

Biden praised Poland's efforts to welcome more than 1,5 million Ukrainian refugees into the country, the statement said.

Biden and Duda also reflected on their shared efforts to support Ukraine, punish Russia, and strengthen the NATO alliance, the statement said. (With CNN, Sky News, Sputnik e CBS).
