At the UN, the Iranian president calls for Trump to be punished for the assassination of General Soleimani.
Denouncing the sanctions imposed by the Americans on other countries, Ebrahim Raisi also highlighted that the world order created by the US is close to collapse.
247 - Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, in a speech at the UN, recalled the assassination of commander Qasem Soleimani by the United States in January 2020 and called for former US President Donald Trump to be punished.
“The proper pursuit of justice in the face of a crime that the American president admitted to ordering will not be abandoned. We will seek, through a fair court, to bring to justice those who martyred our beloved General Qassem Soleimani,” said Raisi.
Denouncing the sanctions imposed by the Americans on other countries, he also highlighted that the world order created by the US is close to collapse. "Its collapse is inevitable," he said. "The United States cannot accept that certain countries have the right to stand and continue to confuse militarism with security," he stated.
"Iran does not tolerate relations based on oppression," he pointed out. "We have no choice but cohesion and multilateralism," he said.
Furthermore, Raisi reiterated his demand for assurances from the United States that it will comply with the nuclear agreement with Iran should it be reactivated, noting that his country has been "extremely flexible" in attempting to resume the nuclear agreement with the world powers.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran does not seek to build or obtain nuclear weapons, and such weapons have no place in our doctrine," the Iranian president told the UN General Assembly. "We have good intentions, we signed the agreement," he noted, but "we have not had the opportunity to receive the reward for these agreements."
The head of state, however, said he doubts US President Joe Biden. "They keep repeating the same stories from the past, which makes us doubt their commitment to returning to the agreement," he noted.
