Motta insists on provoking President Lula and hindering the government, says Lindbergh Farias.
A federal deputy criticized the decision of the Speaker of the House to appoint Derrite as rapporteur for the anti-faction bill.
247 - The leader of the PT in the Chamber of Deputies, Lindbergh Farias (RJ), harshly criticized the president of the House, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), who earlier announced the previously licensed deputy and Secretary of Public Security of the state of São Paulo, Guilherme Derrite (PL-SP), as rapporteur of PL 5582/2025, coming from the government of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
In a social media post, Farias described Motta's decision as "disrespectful."
He highlighted the relevance of the issue for the federal government, since the project, whose objective is to toughen penalties for organized crime, is the target of maneuvers by far-right governors, the ideological group of the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas, who are in favor of designating criminal organizations as "narcoterrorists".
The possibility of introducing the term "narcoterrorist" into the anti-gang bill is generating fears within the PT (Workers' Party) caucus in the Chamber of Deputies about opening a loophole that could even lead to military intervention on national territory.
By Lindbergh Farias, on X: The choice made by President Hugo Motta is disrespectful to President Lula. The anti-gang bill is a priority for the Lula government, and placing it in the hands of Governor Tarcísio's security secretary borders on provocation. It seems like a deliberate attempt to prevent its approval and to hinder the progress of the government's priority agenda in the area of public security.
