Moscow hopes that a meeting in Türkiye between the foreign ministers of Russia and Ukraine will initiate negotiations.
The spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry says that her country is preparing for negotiations with Ukraine and there is a need to expedite matters.
MOSCOW, March 9, TASS - Ukraine confirmed that a meeting between its Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will take place on the sidelines of a diplomatic forum in Antalya, Turkey, on Thursday (10). Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Moscow expects the meeting to actually take place.
"We believe that, once Ukraine confirms, the meeting will indeed take place, especially since it was an initiative of Turkey, the host of the event on the sidelines of which the meeting is expected to be held," he stressed.
Zakharova stressed that Russia is preparing for the talks, but there is no need to rush things. She added that Lavrov's flight to Antalya was scheduled for this Wednesday (9).
Lavrov and Kuleba are expected to meet on the sidelines of a diplomatic forum in Antalya on Thursday. The meeting will also involve Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu.
