Morgan Freeman donates $1 million to Obama.
The Oscar winner for "Million Dollar Baby" has joined the team of stars supporting the Democrat, which already includes Steven Spielberg and TV host Chelsea Handler.
247 with international agencies - Actor Morgan Freeman, 75, donated $1 million to President Barack Obama's re-election campaign, joining the superPAC (political action committee) to help the Democratic candidate.
The Oscar winner for "Million Dollar Baby" made the donation to Priorities USA Action, a political action committee (known as Super PAC) that supports the president's reelection.
"President Obama has done a great job under historically difficult circumstances," Freeman said in a statement. "I am proud to lend my voice—and give my support—to those who defend him."
Obama's Priorities USA campaign has already raised $20,4 million and is trailing Restore Our Future, which supports Republican Mitt Romney and has raised $81,5 million.
Freeman followed the example of comedian Bill Maher, who donated $1 million to the Democratic Super PAC in February, and other Hollywood stars such as director Steven Spielberg and TV host Chelsea Handler. Another high-profile donor is Jeffrey Katzenberg, head of the DreamWorks animation studio.
