247 - The Brazilian mission in New York defended the decision by the Brazilian delegation to the UN not to stand after a request from Ukraine to honor the victims of the armed conflict.

"There was no intention to take sides... nor any political intent in the gesture," the mission assured, according to... The Globe"Even the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, stood up and sat down, creating a tense and confusing situation."

The delegation did not fail to pay tribute to the victims, standing when Russia requested a minute of silence for all those who died, alluding to the people of Donbas, whose situation is neglected by hegemonic countries.

“When Russia made its proposal, there was no objection, and then everyone stood up. There was no intention to take sides; everyone simply waited for a resolution to these events before observing the minute of silence. At the same time the Ukrainian representative requested it, the Russian representative began banging on the table,” the mission explained.
