German Defense Ministry confirms audio recording of military personnel discussing planned attack on Crimean Bridge.
The agency confirms that a conversation between Air Force officers was recorded, but claims there is no way to determine if the content was altered.
Sputnik - The German Ministry of Defence confirmed on Saturday afternoon (2) that a telephone conversation between high-ranking German Air Force officers was intercepted and recorded. The information was broadcast by the German channel Tagesschau.
"We believe a conversation was intercepted within the Luftwaffe [German Air Force]. At this time, we cannot say for sure whether any alterations were made to the recorded or transcribed version distributed on social media," a department representative stated.
The statement from the agency is the first since the audios came to light on Friday (1st), reported by the editor-in-chief of the Rossiya Segodnya group, of which Sputnik is a part, Margarita Simonyan.
Previously, the ministry refused to comment on the matter.
In the recorded conversations, among other things, the military officers discuss a way to attack the Crimean Bridge without directly involving Germany in the conflict. They suggest using Taurus missiles against the infrastructure and debate training Ukrainians for the attack as an option.
Experts interviewed by Sputnik Brazil state that the exposed plans for the attack make NATO's participation in the Ukrainian conflict increasingly explicit. Furthermore, German parliamentarians warned this Saturday that sending weapons to be used against the Crimean Bridge would drag Germany into the conflict.
