Tens of thousands of protesters dressed in white, called together by a hundred civil organizations, marched in several cities in Mexico this Sunday against the "attack" by US President Donald Trump, Edgar Cortez, a member of the organizing committee of the #VibraMéxico movement, revealed to Sputnik.

"There's a sea of people, it's difficult to quantify, tens of thousands, and the same thing is happening in all the emblematic places in the country," said the director of the Mexican Institute for Human Rights and Democracy (IMDHyD), as the main march began towards the El Ángel de la Independencia obelisk, in front of the United States embassy.

The crowd carried Mexican flags and a sign with three phrases on a white background: #VibraMéxico, Stop Trump, and #Respeto al México (Respect Mexico). The march passed along Paseo de la Reforma avenue, which runs through the Mexican capital.

"The protest is pluralistic and non-partisan, it has a common base against President Trump's agenda of reducing rights. We ask our government to fulfill the democratic agenda and respect human rights," said the agency's spokesperson, who is also a lawyer for victims of civil liberties violations.

"There is a plurality of messages aimed at Trump, starting with the rejection of the border wall and even demanding the resignation of (Mexican President Enrique) Peña Nieto. These are understandable protests, as there is an internal conflict with the Mexican authorities," said Cortez.

Another protest was held at the same time, at the Benito Juarez monument, calling for a stronger fight against organized crime. This movement refused to criticize the Mexican government, arguing that President Peña Nieto "needs support to negotiate with Trump."
