Thousands of Venezuelans are asking Maduro for help to return to the country.

“We are asking President Maduro for help in supporting those who migrated to Colombia and are currently trying to return to their country, Venezuela,” said Venezuelan Jorge Marquez, who is walking from Bogotá to the Venezuelan border with his family.

247 - Around 15 Venezuelans are trying to return to Venezuela from Colombia, Peru, and Ecuador, fleeing the humanitarian crisis caused by COVID-19.

On the country's border with Colombia, thousands are trying to return home due to the lockdown imposed by the Colombian government. Most Venezuelans living in the country work in the informal sector and are unable to work, preferring to return to their home country.

According to a report by RFIVenezuelan Jorge Marquez set off on foot with his family from Bogotá, the capital of Colombia, and is walking towards the Venezuelan border.

Jorge asks Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro to facilitate his return. “Our goal is to reach Venezuela, to pass through the border crossing at Cúcuta. When we enter Venezuela, we will undergo tests and have to stay there for 18 days,” he states.

“We ask for President Maduro’s help in supporting those who migrated to Colombia and are currently trying to return to their country, Venezuela,” Marquez concluded.
