Following the tragic Christmas attack in Berlin, German Chancellor Angela Merkel highlighted the problem of terrorism in the country in her end-of-year message to the German people.
Speaking on television, Merkel stated that the country is stronger than terrorism and that the government will do everything to guarantee "security in freedom."
Heavily criticized for her open-door policy towards refugees, the chancellor said that 2016 was a difficult year, but that she is confident for 2017.
