BERLIN, Sept 30 (Reuters) - German Chancellor Angela Merkel and the Social Democratic Party (SPD), the main opposition party, will meet next Friday for their first exploratory talks on the possibility of forming a coalition government, sources from both sides said on Monday.

Merkel's conservative group won this month's election in Germany, but failed to secure a majority in Parliament to govern alone and needs to negotiate the formation of a coalition government.
