247 - French President Emmanuel Macron suggested that the city of Geneva, Switzerland, could be a location to host a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The statement was made in an interview with a French broadcaster. TF1.
The TASS news agency reports that Macron has ruled out the possibility of Paris hosting the meeting, as it did in 2019, arguing that "the situation is currently at a different stage" and that the ideal would be to choose "a neutral country." According to him, "potentially Switzerland, I would prefer Geneva. Or it could be a different country. Last time, the bilateral meetings were held in Turkey, in Istanbul."
Summit in Washington
Macron's speech comes after a meeting in Washington, convened by the President of the United States. Donald Trump, who discussed with European leaders and Zelensky the possibility of organizing a Russia-Ukraine summit. According to the French leader, this meeting could be followed by trilateral talks with the US and, subsequently, by broader multilateral negotiations.
