Lula and Prime Minister Lawrence Wong strengthen cooperation between Brazil and Singapore

247 - President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva met this Sunday (26) with the Prime Minister of Singapore, Lawrence Wong, during the 47th ASEAN Summit, held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The dialogue between the two leaders reinforced the commitment of Brazil and Singapore to deepen the economic and environmental partnership between the countries.

The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in strategic areas such as innovation, the green economy, and mining. Both leaders highlighted the importance of existing economic ties and the need to expand them based on a sustainable and technological agenda.

Climate governance and COP30

Lula and Lawrence Wong also discussed their nations' roles in combating global warming and emphasized the urgency of more effective climate governance. The Singaporean Prime Minister reaffirmed his country's commitment to the success of COP30, which will be held in Belém, Pará, while the Brazilian President invited Singapore to join the Tropical Forests Forever Fund, a new climate finance mechanism that Brazil will launch during the event.

Another central point of the meeting was the identification of investment opportunities related to the energy transition and decarbonization of the transport sector. Among the topics discussed were the development of green hydrogen, sustainable aviation fuels, green diesel, offshore wind power generation, and the exploitation of strategic minerals.

Brazil-Singapore Partnership

Concluding the dialogue, Lula and Wong reaffirmed the value of the partnership between Brazil and Singapore and expressed their desire to further strengthen ties between the two countries. Despite the geographical distance, the leaders highlighted that they share the same objectives in the economic, technological, and environmental fields, signaling a new chapter of cooperation between the two nations.
