247 - BRICS leaders released the Rio de Janeiro Declaration on Sunday (6), demanding the immediate withdrawal of Israeli military forces from Syrian territory. The text reaffirms the group's commitment to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria and denounces violations of international law, directly citing the Israeli occupation.

Under Brazil's presidency, the bloc also advocated for the construction of a peaceful and inclusive political process, led by the Syrians themselves and mediated by the United Nations, to "guarantee the security and well-being of the civilian population, without discrimination."

The statement also condemns the violence between Syrian communities and the terrorist attacks by the Islamic State (Da'esh) and Al-Qaeda, including recent actions such as the attack on the Mar Elias Church. The BRICS expressed solidarity with the victims and called for concrete measures against terrorism.

In the text, another important point was the support for ending unilateral sanctions against Syria, with the expectation that the suspension would contribute to the country's economic reconstruction and promote stability.
