247 - The heads of state and government of the European Union (EU) are discussing this Thursday (24) the worsening conflict between Russia and Ukraine, at an extraordinary summit in Brussels convened urgently by the president of the European Council.
The extraordinary, in-person summit was convened in response to escalating tensions.
The EU has already adopted a package of sanctions against Russia, which could be expanded after the start of the special military operation decreed in the early hours of Thursday by President Putin.
