Daesh leader killed in Syria by Turkish intelligence services, says Erdogan.
The Turkish president stated that national intelligence forces had managed to eliminate a leader of the terrorist group.
Sputnik - The Turkish leader stated that national intelligence forces managed to eliminate a leader of the terrorist group, which, according to British media, occurred on Saturday night (29) to Sunday (30).
Recep Tayyip Erdogan, president of Turkey, announced on Sunday (30) that the country's intelligence forces killed a Daesh leader, Abu Hussein al-Qurashi, in Syria, wrote the British agency Reuters on Sunday (30).
Local and Syrian security sources said the attack against the leader of Daesh (a terrorist organization banned in Russia and several other countries) took place in the northern Syrian city of Jandaris, which is controlled by militants backed by Turkey and was one of the areas most affected by the February 6 earthquake that struck both countries.
A resident said that clashes began on the outskirts of Jandaris during the night of Saturday (29) to Sunday (30), lasting about an hour before residents heard a large explosion. Subsequently, the area was reportedly surrounded by Turkish forces to prevent anyone from approaching the area.
"This individual was neutralized yesterday as part of an operation by the Turkish national intelligence organization in Syria," Erdogan said in an interview with Turkish broadcaster TRT Turk, adding that the intelligence organization had been pursuing al-Qurashi for a long time.
Daesh chose al-Qurashi as its leader in November 2022, after the terrorist group's previous leader was killed in an operation in southern Syria.
