The European Union (EU) recorded a record number of asylum applications from Latin Americans in February since 2014, when data collection began, according to the European Asylum Support Office (EASO). There were 57 applications for protection in EU countries, as well as Switzerland and Norway; with 3.995 applications, Venezuelans became the second largest group of applicants, behind Syrians (5.393).

In the case of Colombians, there were 1.973 requests (a record), 731 from El Salvador, 616 from Nicaragua, 592 from Honduras, 351 from Haiti, 323 from Peru, 112 from Cuba, and 73 from Guatemala. This information was published by AFP.
According to the agency, "applications from Colombians reached a record high in February, more than tripling the number of applications compared to the previous year, making them the tenth nationality with the most requests."
