Spuntik - The Bloomberg news agency published a headline saying "Live: Russia invades Ukraine." The story appeared on the homepage around midnight Moscow time and remained there for almost half an hour before being removed and an apology issued.

Users who clicked on the shocking news while it was still on the site were redirected to an error page, according to the New York Post.

>>> Bloomberg makes a mistake and reports a false Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Screenshots from Bloomberg's website were shared on Twitter indicating that the sensationalist claim went largely unnoticed for at least 24 minutes before being removed.

The news agency admitted the error, saying that it "prepares headlines for many scenarios and that the headline 'Russia invades Ukraine' was inadvertently published around 4pm Eastern Time Zone today (4) on our website".

"We deeply regret the error. The headline has been removed and we are investigating the cause," Bloomberg added.

This headline, "Russia invades Ukraine," was finally removed after remaining on Bloomberg's website for about 30 minutes. How did that happen?

Serious mistake by Bloomberg. Did nobody notice this for 30 minutes?? Were the editors asleep?

In turn, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told Sputnik that the term "fake news" could be replaced by "Bloomberg news" after the agency's erroneous publication about the start of Russia's "invasion" of Ukraine.

Commenting on the fake news, Peskov noted that the situation illustrates the dangers of aggressive statements from the US and Western countries, as such news can lead to irreparable consequences.

"In general, of course, for a publication as reputable as Bloomberg, perhaps now we can say not 'fake news' but 'Bloomberg news,' which would be fully justified," Peskov told Sputnik.

“This is an example of the consequences that the climate of extreme tension that has formed due to these aggressive actions by our partners in Europe can lead to. And it is also a good demonstration of how such publications can lead to irreparable consequences,” Peskov emphasized.

In recent months, the US and allied European countries have accused Russia of amassing troops along the border with Ukraine with the intention of invading the country. The rising tensions in the region have dominated headlines in the international media.
