247 - Democrat Robert F. Kennedy Jr., son of assassinated Senator Robert F. Kennedy and nephew of former President John F. Kennedy, stated in a speech that his candidacy for the presidency of the United States targets militarism in the country.

He condemned the Iraq War and recalled his uncle's clash with the US military. "When my uncle took office, two months later he was fighting against his own intelligence apparatus and his own military... In the middle of the Bay of Pigs, he realized they were lying to him. He understood the function of the intelligence agencies: to provide the military-industrial complex with a constant channel of war. And then the neocons and the CIA went to Iraq and carried out regime change. We spent $8 trillion and what did we get out of it? Nothing... Iraq is now much worse than when we went in. We killed more Iraqis than Saddam Hussein ever killed."
