The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also urged the parties to resume negotiations aimed at a permanent cessation of hostilities.
247 - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a note this Tuesday (18), criticized the new Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip and mentioned the "flagrant violation of International Humanitarian Law" by the Jewish State.
The Brazilian government urged Israel to fulfill its responsibilities to protect the Palestinian civilian population and to lift the blockade on humanitarian aid entering Gaza.
The Brazilian Foreign Ministry (Itamaraty) urged the parties to resume negotiations aimed at a permanent cessation of hostilities. It also requested the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza and the release of the hostages.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Israel Defense Forces reported that they were carrying out massive airstrikes against targets of the Palestinian Hamas movement in the Gaza Strip. The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the country resumed attacks on the Gaza Strip in response to Hamas's refusal to accept the United States' plan to extend the ceasefire and continue the release of hostages. According to the latest data from the Gaza Ministry of Health, more than 400 people have been killed and more than 500 injured in the latest attacks.

The Brazilian government deplores the new Israeli attacks carried out today, the 18th, against areas in the Gaza Strip, including zones previously designated as safe, which caused the deaths of hundreds of Palestinians, including a large number of children, in flagrant violation of International Humanitarian Law.
In noting the obligation of Israel, as the occupying power, to take the necessary measures to protect the civilian population in the occupied territories, Brazil urges the country to lift restrictions on the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza and to restore the electricity supply to the territory.
It further urges the parties to comply with the terms of the ceasefire agreement announced on January 15 and to urgently resume negotiations with a view to a permanent cessation of hostilities, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, the release of all hostages and the establishment of a robust mechanism to guarantee the unimpeded entry of humanitarian aid.
