Israel violates rights and endangers the physical safety of protesters, says Itamaraty (Brazil's Foreign Ministry).
Earlier, Israeli forces boarded boats carrying foreign pro-Palestinian activists, including Member of Parliament Luizianne Lins.
247 - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated this Wednesday (1) that it is following "with concern" the interception, by the Israeli navy, of vessels from the Global Sumud Flotilla, which include Brazilian citizens, including parliamentarians, carrying humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.
Earlier, Israeli forces boarded the vessels, breaking up a protest that had become one of the most important symbols of opposition to Israel's genocidal blockade of the enclave.
The statement from Itamaraty (Brazil's Ministry of Foreign Affairs) mentions that federal congresswoman Luizianne Lins was detained and affirms that Brazil "recalls the principle of freedom of navigation in international waters and emphasizes the peaceful nature of the flotilla."
"The Brazilian government deplores the Israeli government's military action, which violates rights and endangers the physical integrity of peaceful protesters. In the context of this reprehensible military operation, the responsibility for the safety of those detained now falls to Israel.
In this context, it reiterates its call for the immediate and unconditional lifting of all Israeli restrictions on the entry and distribution of humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip, in accordance with Israel's obligations as an occupying power under international humanitarian law.", the document adds.
