247 - An Israeli bombing in southern Lebanon killed 11 people who were trying to return to their homes and injured another 83, the Lebanese Health Ministry reported on Sunday (26).
"The death toll has risen to 11 and the number of wounded to 83, as a result of enemy attacks during attempts by citizens to return to their cities in the south of the country," the ministry said in a statement.
The Lebanese army said one of its soldiers was killed and another wounded by Israeli fire.
A US-brokered ceasefire between Israel and the Lebanese Hezbollah movement came into effect on November 27, 2024, after nearly 14 months of continuous escalation of the conflict. According to the agreement, the Lebanese army was to occupy areas in the south of the country within 60 days, while Hezbollah forces were to retreat north of the Litani River. During this period, Israel was to completely withdraw its troops from Lebanese territory.
On Sunday morning, the date marking the end of the deadline, thousands of residents returned to towns and villages along the border.
Israel said the 60-day ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah has not been fully implemented. (With information from...) Sputnik).
