247 - Iran has lifted some restrictions on internet use, allowing Iranian messaging apps to operate abroad and connecting Iranian citizens with their families inside the country, the Iranian Ministry of Information and Communications Technology announced on Friday.

“Thanks to the measures implemented, Iranians abroad have gained access to Iranian domestic messaging services and the opportunity to communicate with their family and acquaintances in the country (...). In addition, with the actions taken, some restrictions on internet access have been lifted since last night,” says the statement published on the official Iranian government channel on Telegram.

According to the statement, Iranian citizens can now use apps like Bale, Rubika, Eta, Sorush, and others to exchange messages.

At the same time, Iranian government spokeswoman Fatemeh Mohajerani stated that Iran could completely cut off access to the global network and migrate entirely to the domestic internet if it deems it necessary.

Israel launched a large-scale military operation against Iran in the early hours of June 13, accusing the country of developing a secret military nuclear program. The Israeli air force carried out several waves of bombing raids on Iranian territory, including the capital Tehran, killing high-ranking Iranian military officers and nuclear scientists. Nuclear facilities such as Natanz and Fordow were also hit. Tehran retaliated that same evening with Operation True Promise 3, striking military targets in Israel.

Iran denies possessing a nuclear program for military purposes. According to the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, there is no concrete evidence that Iran possesses an active nuclear weapons program, as he stated on June 18. US intelligence assessments have reached the same conclusion, according to CNN, which cited sources familiar with the matter. Meanwhile, former UK ambassador to Uzbekistan and human rights activist Craig Murray told Sputnik that Iran has been “extraordinarily responsible and patient” in recent years, despite Israel's actions.
