247 - Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, published a message on Monday (23) emphasizing the need to defend the country against attacks from the United States and Israel. "Those who know the Iranian people and their history know that the Iranian nation is not a nation that surrenders," he stated.

The post on social media was published after US President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire between Iran and Israel. But, according to CNN, a senior Iranian official stated that the country:

  • "He received no ceasefire proposal";
  • He sees no reason to consider such a measure;
  • "At this very moment, the enemy is committing acts of aggression against Iran."
  • We are about to "intensify our retaliatory attacks";
  • He will not listen to the "lies of our adversaries".

The Iranian representative added that any statement from the US and Israel would be considered "a deception," and that Tehran "will continue fighting until a lasting peace is achieved."

Balance of the conflict

  • Deaths in Iran: 950 (according to the Human Rights Activists News Agency (Hrana));
  • Deaths in Israel: 25 (from Iranian attacks).

US entry into the conflict

  1. Initial attack: The US bombed three Iranian nuclear facilities on June 21;
  2. Iranian retaliation: Attack on Al Udeid air base (Qatar);
  3. Extreme measure: Iranian Parliament approved the closure of the Strait of Hormuz (20% of the world's oil).

International reactions

  • Brazil, Russia, and China criticized the escalation;
  • Trump thanked Iran for the "advance warning" that prevented casualties in the attack on Al Udeid.
