247 - India has confirmed that its Foreign Minister, S. Jaishankar, will be in Moscow on August 21st for a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the agenda will include “key issues on our bilateral agenda, as well as central aspects of cooperation within international frameworks.” This information was published by RT.

During the visit, Jaishankar will participate in the 26th session of the Russian-Indian Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical and Cultural Cooperation, the main mechanism for monitoring projects between the two countries. The last meeting took place in November 2024 in India, under the co-chairmanship of the Indian Foreign Minister and the Russian First Deputy Prime Minister, Denis Manturov.

Since 2022, India and Russia have expanded bilateral trade, which reached approximately US$66 billion in 2024. The established goal is to reach US$100 billion by 2030. Moscow has become the main supplier of oil to New Delhi. This rapprochement occurs amidst pressure from the United States, with President Donald Trump announcing increased tariffs on Indian products due to the purchase of Russian oil.

Jaishankar's visit comes just days after India's National Security Advisor, Ajit Doval, met in Moscow with President Vladimir Putin and the Secretary of the Russian Security Council, Sergey Shoigu. The meeting also addressed Putin's planned official visit to India later this year. According to the Indian ambassador to Russia, Vinay Kumar, Modi and Putin maintain a "positive rapport."
