Held incommunicado, Brazilians kidnapped by Israel are to receive consular visits.
All Brazilians and other crew members of the flotilla have already been transferred to the Ketziot detention center.
247 - Federal deputy Luizianne Lins (PT-CE), detained by the Israeli Navy during a humanitarian mission in international waters, is expected to receive a consular visit from the Brazilian Embassy this Friday (3). The parliamentarian has been incommunicado for more than 40 hours since the approach, carried out when the Global Sumud Flotilla was carrying food, medicines and prostheses destined for the Palestinian population of the Gaza Strip.
All Brazilians and other crew members of the flotilla have already been transferred to the Ketziot detention center in the Negev desert, about 30 kilometers from the Egyptian border. The Brazilian consular service is monitoring the case and conducting visits to verify the security and physical integrity of the detainees. Lawyers linked to the mission are also working in the defense of the Brazilian citizens.
Interception at sea
The military operation took place last Wednesday (1st), when the international flotilla was approaching Palestinian territory. The episode is reminiscent of similar incidents recorded in June, when another vessel from Freedom Flotilla It was intercepted, and its crew was detained and deported.
Luizianne Lins had requested diplomatic support before embarking on her journey, sending an official letter to the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on September 17th to guarantee the protection of the Brazilian delegation. In response, the Ministry acknowledged being aware of the possibility of the arrest of Brazilian citizens. Last week, 37 federal deputies also requested increased security measures for the members of the mission.
Brazilians detained
At least 11 Brazilians have already been intercepted on different boats belonging to the Global Sumud Flotilla. Besides Luizianne, they include councilwoman Mariana Conti (PSOL-SP), the president of the PSOL in Rio Grande do Sul, Gabi Tolotti, activist Thiago Ávila, professor Nicolas Calabrese, USP worker Bruno Gilga, communicator Lisiane Proença, union leader Magno Costa, popular lawyer Ariadne Telles, the creator of the Islamic History project, Mansur Peixoto, activist Lucas Gusmão, and the coordinator of the Palestinian Front in São Paulo, Mohamad El Kadri.
