Saudi Arabia's heir says he may reduce investments in the US.
The Arab kingdom's investments in the United States amount to approximately 800 billion dollars.
RT - Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman said on Thursday that his country may reduce investments in the United States, Reuters reports, citing the Saudi Press Agency.
"Just as we have the possibility of promoting our interests, we also have the possibility of reducing them," he said, referring to the Arab kingdom's investments in the United States, which, according to the SPA, total approximately $800 billion.
In an interview with The Atlantic, published on Thursday, the Saudi leader said that Washington and Riyadh have a long and historic relationship, therefore his nation's goal is to maintain and strengthen it. He also asserted that the world's potential today lies in Saudi Arabia.
On the other hand, he indicated that if US President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris attempt to alienate the Saudi monarchy, his position will be harmed. "It is up to them to consider the interests of the US," he said.
In the opinion of the crown prince, neither his country has the right to "teach a lesson" to the US, nor vice versa, asserting that Washington has no right to interfere in its internal affairs, although he acknowledges that the destinies of both countries remain intertwined.
When asked if he had anything to do with the death of opposition journalist Jamal Khashoggi, who was murdered in 2018 while visiting his country's consulate in Istanbul, Turkey, Salman replied that he did not, detailing that he had never read an article by him and that if he had to "send a death squad, he would choose a more valuable target and more competent assassins."
