Haitians record video in response to Luciano Huck's criticism.
"After what I saw, I think humanity has failed," the presenter stated about his experience in Haiti; immigrants expressed indignation and claimed that TV Globo reinforces a stereotypical image, highlighting only the poverty and violence of the country; report from Fórum magazine.
Da Forum magazine - A group of Haitians living in Curitiba published a video on the internet on Monday (20) in protest against the exploitation of Haiti's image of poverty. The initiative came after a report broadcast on TV Globo during the break of the game that the country played against the Brazilian national football team, on June 8. The images shown were supposedly only of the Cite Soleil neighborhood, in the capital Port-au-Prince, known for its misery and violence.
The report also allegedly used images from 2004, a period when the country was experiencing serious political problems, and from 2010, when it was devastated by an earthquake. And, according to Haitians, Globo ignored any positive aspects of the region. Presenter Luciano Huck even gave a statement about his experience in Haiti: "After what I saw, I think humanity has failed," he said.
The statement caused outrage among immigrants, who believe that, with this attitude, the broadcaster reinforces xenophobia and other difficulties they already face outside their country of origin. Initially, the idea was to write a letter to Huck, which later became a video with the help of photojournalist Brunno Covello and students from the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR).
