Guardian highlights Lula and the return of optimism in Brazil.
British newspaper highlights Lula's "extraordinary political rebirth" and Brazilian relief at Jair Bolsonaro's downfall.
247 - The British newspaper The Guardian highlights the inauguration festival of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), scheduled for this Sunday (1) and affectionately nicknamed 'Lulapalooza', as a "momentary explosion of Brazilian politics and dance".
In a report titled 'It's going to be wild': Brazil prepares for 'Lulapalooza' as new leader kicks off reign with a big party. The English newspaper attributes the happiness of the Brazilian people "to the fall of the ultraconservative president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and the extraordinary political resurrection of his left-wing successor."
The publication interviewed 64-year-old social activist Mayse Freitas, from the Complexo do Alemão favela, who said that Lula's inauguration will be the happiest day of her life. "It's going to be wild. I'm not one to cry, but I think I'll have to take a sedative to control the emotion I'm going to feel. Lula is one of us. Lula is human. He is humanity. He is the exact opposite of that scoundrel who has governed us for four years.”
The newspaper highlights that "abroad, there is also satisfaction with the return of Lula, a moderate leftist from the Workers' Party (PT), whose political career seemed dead and buried when he was imprisoned in 2018 on corruption charges that were later dropped."
