247 - Australian activists from the global humanitarian flotilla Sumud heading to Gaza who were detained by Israeli military forces reported on Tuesday (7) beatings, sleep deprivation, confiscation of medication and degrading treatment, including being forced to “dance like a monkey”. The information was released by ABC News.

Some were also subjected, in prison, to repeated and loud showings of images of the Hamas attack of October 7th. The seven Australians have since been released and deported to Jordan.

The Brazilians who were part of the flotilla are now safe in Jordan after being released from an Israeli prison. They reported degrading conditions similar to those described in Australia.

Furthermore, activist Greta Thunberg, who was also part of the aid mission to the Palestinian people, said that she and other detainees from the flotilla were subjected to torture in an Israeli prison.

Greta said at a press conference in Stockholm that she and others were kidnapped and tortured by the Israeli military. She reported not receiving clean drinking water and that other detainees were deprived of essential medication.

"Personally, I don't want to share what I was subjected to because I don't want it to become headline news like 'Greta was tortured,' because that's not the story here," she said, adding that what they were subjected to paled in comparison to what people in Gaza experienced daily.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Reuters.
