The Trump administration wants to repeal dozens of environmental regulations. Analysts react.
Proposals announced by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency violate crucial rules on climate change, power plant pollution, and electric vehicles.
247 - The head of the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Lee Zeldin, said on Wednesday (12) that 31 environmental regulations will no longer be enforced in the United States, including crucial rules on climate change, pollution from coal-fired power plants and electric vehicles.
In an article in Wall Street JournalZeldin stated that he is "driving a dagger into the heart of the religion of climate change." He added that his actions will eliminate "trillions of dollars in regulatory costs."
Among the controversial measures is the revision of a 2009 scientific determination that classifies greenhouse gases as harmful to public health. According to the Associated Press, President Donald Trump's administration also intends to rewrite regulations that limit pollution from fossil fuel power plants and vehicle emissions.
David Doniger, a member of the Natural Resources Defense Council, stated that it was "impossible to think that the EPA could develop a contradictory conclusion that would hold up in court."
Scientist Michael Mann, from the University of Pennsylvania, said that the proposals advocated by the Trump administration represent "the latest form of Republican climate denial."
