247 - The United States Department of State released a statement on Thursday (16) highlighting the "very positive" talks and the "pathway for progress" in Brasilia-Washington relations.
The statement was released by the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump following a meeting on Thursday between Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the White House in Washington, D.C., USA.
"Today, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer met with Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira and had very positive conversations regarding trade and ongoing bilateral issues. Secretary Rubio, Ambassador Greer, and Foreign Minister Vieira agreed to collaborate and conduct discussions on several fronts in the immediate future, establishing a working path for progress. Both sides also agreed to work together to schedule a meeting between President Trump and President Lula at the earliest possible opportunity," reads the "Joint Statement by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, and Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira."
Earlier, Vieira confirmed to journalists that technical teams should begin negotiating measures "soon" to try to reverse the unilateral 50% tariffs applied by Washington since August against national products.
