Nicaragua's vice president, Rosario Murillo, declared on Monday (18) that the Sandinista government is open to dialogue to find solutions to the country's problems based on respect and understanding.
"Our government, always open to dialogue, listening, and seeking creative and feasible solutions for Nicaragua and among Nicaraguans, has reiterated to our people its permanent commitment to agreements and consensus that benefit the country and all Nicaraguans," Murillo stated in a televised address.
The vice-governor's words respond to messages of congratulations following the meeting between the Sandinista government and representatives of the business sector and the Catholic Church to negotiate solutions to the problems facing the Central American nation since the attempted coup in April 2018.
Last week, the Nicaraguan government met with a group of business leaders representing the national private sector to discuss issues important for the common good of the country.
In an open exchange of opinions, the need for an understanding to begin negotiations was confirmed, through an inclusive, serious, and frank meeting.
The meeting with the business leaders was attended as a guest of both parties by His Eminence Cardinal Leopoldo José Brenes, Archbishop of Managua, and His Excellency Monsignor Waldemar Stanislaw Sommertag, Apostolic Nuncio to Nicaragua.
Also last week, the Nicaraguan government held important talks with a delegation from the OAS General Secretariat.
During the meeting, there was an exchange of information and opinions on the situation in Nicaragua, and the importance of continuing the Constructive Exchange Roundtables between the Government and the OAS General Secretariat, in order to advance the path towards electoral reforms and the 2021 presidential elections.
The Government of Reconciliation and National Unity values the importance of this exchange and the agreement to maintain open communication channels with the General Secretariat of the OAS.
